Rock the Block | National Night Out | Family Fiesta | West Michigan Latino Health 5K

LINC Rock the Block

First beginning in 2011, Rock the Block has been a place for community residents to connect to resources and enjoy a day of fun. The event is organized by LINC, an agency dedicated to revitalizing Kent County's neighborhoods through partnerships and collaborations with community-based organizations and other stakeholders. Since it's first debut, Rock the Block has become a large street fair with a variety of vendors, resources, entertainment, multi-cultural cuisine, local art, great bands, and more.

Last year, over 10,000 people attend the event along with over 100 vendors. Our team was also there providing information to the public about REACH and Kent County Health Connect. Don't forget to find us at this summers event (look for the walking banana and carrot)!

National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community crime and safety even sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, ADT, Nextdoor.com, Associa, and Fun Flicks. The event falls on the first Tuesday in August. Neighbors across all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide participate in this event. Nationally, 38.3 million people participated in NNO 2015.

Neighborhoods throughout Grand Rapids gather to celebrate the occasion as well. The event is designed to create crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, and strengthen neighborhood and police cooperation.

West Michigan Latino Health 5K

On September 5, 2014 people gathered at the Oxford Trail near Clemente Park in Grand Rapids for the first ever West Michigan Latino Health 5k. The trail was established and marked by Kent County Health Connect to give people who live in the Roosevelt Park and Black Hills neighborhoods access to a safe place to exercise. Light rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm as more than 200 runners, walkers, and joggers of all ages traveled the five kilometer (3.1 mile) course at their own speed. The 5k was followed by a post even celebration that included raffles, refreshments, and resources regarding health and fitness topics.
